2019 KMC CLASSIC RIDER COMMUNIQUE
Saturday November 23, 2019. Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, 205 E Thompson Rd, Thompson, CT 06277. Race Flyer Held under USA Cycling Permit 2019-3120. All USA Cycling rules apply.
Thank you for registering for the 2019 KMC Classic cyclo-cross at the Thompson Speedway. The organizers made a cultural pivot with this year’s event. While we still believe in the potential of UCI races in America, we felt the Thompson venue better suited to hosting a regional event that places emphasis on amateur and developmental racers.
We’ve created a course that is safe but challenging. In line with the objectives of the Connecticut Cyclo-cross Series, we strive to keep our entry fees affordable. We built a schedule – from registration to awards – that respects the busy schedule of every rider. And the position of the venue in the “Quiet Corner”, where the borders of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut meet, puts this racing experience within a 90-minute drive of almost every racer in Southern New England.
Finally, with all of the indoor amenities offered by the Thompson Speedway we saw fit to move the event to a colder calendar slot. Going forward we see the new KMC Classic as the perfect pre-nationals tune-up race.
We deeply appreciate your attendance to our event. We’ll keep you posted on our plans going into 2020.
The forecast calls for a perfect New England autumn day. As of this writing the forecast calls for sunny skies, no precipitation, light winds, and a high of 44 degrees Fahrenheit. That said, early categories will be starting a frost-covered course. Prepare accordingly.
There is a $5 per vehicle parking fee collected by the venue at the main entrance, cash or credit. This fee grants us access to this private facility and its amenities. After receiving your parking pass follow the access road all the way past the back of the restaurant, over the bridge and into the main paddock around the garage, all parking will be in that lot around the garage close to registration and race action. Overflow parking will be in the lot behind the restaurant before the bridge if needed.
Registration will open in the race garage at 7:30 p.m.
Our club row spaces are available inside the garage. Each space allows for 500 square feet of space. Please see BikeReg for details. We suggest you position a 10×10 tent outside your bay to demarcate your position. Each team will be granted a 20×20 indoor space that can accommodate a vehicle. You may keep your garage door open or closed dependent on weather and the goodwill of your neighbors. Each space has power. Electric heaters are welcome. Due to the compact nature of the course, no other tents may be erected inside the race venue. Those parking outside of the bridge are welcome to erect tents.
You are welcome to have your own food. There will be a food vendor on site. The Raceway Restaurant will have its bar open but not its kitchen.
Racers are welcome to bring their own beverages. We ask that you not use glass containers out of respect for all types of race vehicles. The Raceway Restaurant will also have its bar open.
WARM UP AREA
The skid pad, positioned to the eastern end of the race venue, will be a designated warm up area. Please respect the clockwise flow of the riders there.
Riders will be staged as follows: the top 10 riders in the CTCX series, then according to CrossResults.com, and then in order of entry.
Awards will be indoors near the registration area. We recognize the top three finishers of each category listed on the race flyer. Note that the awards will take place immediately after each race. Failure to attend the awards ceremony will result in the forfeiture of all prizes.
All rider payout will be done on site via USMAIL post event.
