As cyclo-cross organizers we are taking stock of all we have done with our event, the KMC CrossFest, in the past decade. While this is a re-set year, we are determined to redouble our efforts to make cyclo-cross great again. What came across our wire of late were these photos Kevin Mullaly. One of his first races ever as a cub junior was the KMC CrossFest in Providence. Back then barriers seemed so big to Kevin, the youngest of six Mullaly children, all of whom raced and rode bikes. And his first payout was at our event. Having turned 16, Kevin has crushed the souls of grown men racing to six victories in his first 10 cyclo-cross starts this season. He roared through the Cat 4 ranks and upgraded to Cat 3. This makes us, as event organizers so proud. While pro-elite riders may seem un-phased by all the hard work that goes in to the production of a large-scale event, the youngest riders sparkle at a chance to ride on a big-time course. When we look at the success of those young racers today, we remember that Big Races Matter. And as we work towards the reset of our events, we’ll invest our resources accordingly.
