KMC CrossFest to Join Connecticut Series

Focus on Amateurs Saturday with UCI Racing on Sunday

THOMPSON, CT (September 1, 2018) – With a renewed commitment to local cyclists, the KMC CrossFest will host the second round of the Connecticut Cyclo-cross Series on Sept. 29.

“We’re doubling down on Connecticut with our joining this emerging series,” said Richard Fries, co-founder of the KMC CrossFest. “We could not think of a better partner than the Connecticut Cycling Advancement Program. This organization has developed great athletes, great teams and great events. And we seek to expand our involvement with them not just with this event but with all of their programs.”

Day one of the weekend will follow the schedule established by the Connecticut series with several youth races and amateur categories.

Day two of the weekend will have international ranking as a UCI category 2 event. The KMC CrossFest has hosted a Category 1 event for several years. With the placement of the Iowa City World Cup on the same weekend, organizers chose to retain their calendar slot out of respect for other promoters and the region’s calendar for cyclo-cross.

“We thank the UCI for granting us a special derivation to host a UCI event on the same weekend as a World Cup, despite our being in the same nation as Iowa. We felt this date too be too important,” said Patrick Goguen, programs director for the KMC CrossFest. “We look forward to returning as a Category 1 event in 2019.
