“Having UCI racing on Friday opened up possibilities for a bigger, festival-like atmosphere across the entire weekend,” said KMC Cross Fest Co-Founder Richard Fries. “We wanted to take it one step further and do our best to ensure that both our media team and the members of the cycling news media are able to dedicate equal media time and coverage for both the professional women and men by adding another start in between. However we are obliged to conform to the letter of the law.”

In addition to the changes to the UCI categories, the schedule also pushes back all categories on Friday to later start times. Based upon feedback from the cyclocross community, race organizers shifted the Friday schedule as late as could be accommodated.

“As the premier cyclocross event in New England we focus our passion for the sport on providing the community the best possible experience,” said KMC Cross Fest Marketing/Communications Director Glenn Stilwell. “We want to show the best possible images and tell the outstanding stories that this diverse group has to offer. We will continue to innovate and at the same time listen to the needs of the community, the teams, and the athletes.”

KMC Cross Fest staff offer a letter to the cyclocross community with further explanation available here.
