New dealer/media day with clinics, racing, demos, and camping
THOMPSON, Conn. (May 24, 2017) – Registration for the KMC Cross Fest expo is now open. The ninth annual event, which will take place starting on Thursday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 1, will feature an exclusive dealer-media event to kick off the expo on Thursday, Sept. 28, with fun races and events in the evening under the lights. Long considered one of the nation’s premier UCI cyclocross races, amatuer and elite categories will compete Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
The 2017 expo will be positioned near fan favorite course features on the Thompson Speedway skid pad to ensure foot traffic for vendors and add to the festival-like atmosphere.
“For us the expo is a major component of our event,” said Sponsorship and Expo Director Jim Wannamaker. “The nature of cyclocross, with its schedule filled with short racing events punctuated by down time, creates a great vibe for an expo. With team tents, vendors, food, beer and kids events, our team is laying out the venue to facilitate a full weekend of fun.”
Additionally Wannamaker added that “The Thompson Speedway is designed to host racing events while also enabling access and egress throughout the weekend. One big attraction is the ability to test ride the newest 2018 offerings on roads and trails without ever crossing the race course.”
Richard Fries, co-founder of the event agreed that the venue suits this format. “Our new home in Thompson is perfectly suited to create a demo event for both dealers and consumers. We have a closed road circuit, miles of gravel roads, and a network of nearby mountain bike trails, Just like Laguna Seca, this venue is built to host large events. We have classrooms, a bar, restaurants and banquet facilities capable of hosting multiple clinics and demos.”
Thursday’s schedule will include clinics and classes, demos, industry/media cyclocross racing, a road circuit race, and a night mountain bike race. New for 2017 vendors will be able to camp on site.
While the UCI cyclocross competition will remain the premier focus of the event, additional family friendly and non-racing activities will be available for riders and spectators alike. With venue features such as camping, Thompson Speedway lends itself to a more festival like feel with additional evening activities, a massive expo, the Paddock Party, a new mountain bike Gran Fondo, and the Eddy Merckx New England Gran Fondo.
