Equal Prize Purse and Addition of a Women’s Category 2/3 Race
THOMPSON, CT (August 24, 2016) – The KMC Cross Fest is pleased to announce an updated prize list reflecting equal payout for men’s and women’s elite fields on both days of competition. Also new this year is a Women’s Category 2/3 field on Saturday. KMC Cross Fest is dedicated to progressing the sport of cyclocross through women’s and junior racing development.
“With the large changes that the event will undergo this year there were several oversights in regards to prize lists and field offerings. To clarify we accidentally transferred last year’s purse to 2016,” stated Competition Director Patrick Goguen. “The elite women’s prize purse is equal for both days. That information is now reflected correctly on BikeReg. The women now have a combined Category 2 and 3 option for Saturday and both the men and women will be category 3 only races on Sunday providing ample options and opportunities for elites and amateurs alike.”
“We are in this for the long haul” said Event Director Richard Fries. “We need to develop junior racing and we need to develop women’s racing if we are going to be truly an international event. It’s also important that we become a sport accessible to all people regardless of their income or race. That’s why we have also partnered with the Major Taylor Association.” KMC Cross Fest has partnered with the Major Taylor Association on Gran Fondo New England, the autumn classic in the “Quiet Corner.”
